{Film} Grammy-Nominated Singer/Songwriter Janelle Monáe Makes Her Film Debut In the Coming of Age LGBT Movie ‘Moonlight’

MoonlightThis morning the trailer for ‘Moonlight’ dropped like the atomic bomb. ‘Moonlight’ is based on the play written by Tarell McCraney. Moonlight tells the story of Chiron (Trevante Rhodes), a young man who comes of age during the War on Drugs era in Miami. Set in three different time periods as Chiron battles a deteriorating home life and deals with his dawning sexuality. The film is written and directed by Barry Jenkins, set to premiere on Oct 21 in Los Angeles and New York.

‘Moonlight’ stars Naomie Harris, André Holland and Mahershala Ali (House of Cards). Grammy-nominated singer/ songwriter Janelle Monáe makes her film debut. The cast also includes Alex R. Hibbert, Jaden Piner, Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhodes and Jharrel Jerome. The film is executive produced by Brad Pitt and Sarah Esberg.
